Carole Nash East Coast Racing Festival 2017

The East Coast club celebrated success in running their first meeting this afternoon in a showery afternoons racing.

Derek McGee was also in a celebratory mood as he added the Irish Roads Superbike title to his tally of 2017 awards. Finishing 3rd in the “Friends of Road Racing” Open race was enough to deny the determined efforts of Derek Sheils who would win the race from Micko Sweeney.

In the 600cc Caffrey International Non-Championship and Kennedy Motorcycles 600cc Irish Championship races, Micko went one better winning both races. Paul Jordan was 3rd.

Joe Loughlin returned from injury to win the Senior Support race and laid claim to the inaugural “Dario Cecconi” memorial trophy with both the Junior and Senior Championships already won.

Following the second 600cc race, both Lady Luck and Mother Nature decided to intervene and a deluge of rain force the club to abandon the meeting where standing water at the back section proved simply too dangerous to allow racing to continue.

This meant the feature race; the Carole Nash Grand Final had to be scrapped.

Many spectators turned up to view the final Road Race of 2017 and we hope that the ECR club can continue to host another meeting in 2018.

Full results and report to follow.
